Astrology: Will I Win the Lottery Today?
Hello Folks…I apologize for my absence, it has been a particularly challenging month at work and I have been hard pressed to find the time to blog. Nevertheless, here I am. Today, I’d like to talk about Astrology/Horoscopes. Astrology is the study of the positions and aspects of the stars/planets in the belief that they have influence on the course of natural earthly occurrences and human affairs. I have always had an interest in astrology and more importantly the validity of horoscopes. I think it’s pretty safe to say that most horoscopes (in news papers/magazines etc) are purely for entertainment purposes. It’s important to know that most “commercial” horoscopes base their “predictions” on the Sun sign. The Sun sign is only part of a person’s birth chart. There are many other planets and constellations that affect each individual birth chart.
The Sun sign is an individual’s basic character. The Moon sign represents our emotions and make up the unconscious side of our personality. Mercury is associated with the mind and communication. The Venus sign is insight into the way someone draws love, beauty and friendship to your life. Mars reveals information about our basic animal nature: aggressive instincts, sexuality and our drive. Jupiter is the sign of luck, vision, expansion and plenty fullness. The Ascendant or rising sign shows a person’s natural defenses and how we cope with day-to-day issues…the ascendant shows an individual’s first, natural reaction to new people and situations. There are other signs involved in each individual birth chart; I have only mentioned a few of the more significant signs.
Recently there was some controversy regarding the appropriate definitions of each sign and its true validity/influence in day today day living. It has been said by many astrologers that horoscopes DO NO predict the future. From my understanding they give a basic template for each individual as far as their predispositions to certain occurrences in life…if that makes any sense at all. This recent controversy has caused me to re- think the true influence/importance of horoscopes in an individual’s life. There has been no evidence or clear cut studies that prove astrology has significant insight into a person’s life. I am more inclined to believe that we are a product of genetics and life experience (nature and nurture). Through free will, we are responsible for the lives we create for ourselves.
Other opinions and comments are appreciated.
